1st John 4:9-10; Rom 14:17 | Basis of Love and Joy

\1st John 4:9-10 NKJV  In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.  (10)  In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Rom 14:17 NKJV  for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Basis of Love and Joy
Envy, Leveling, Tyranny vs. Love, Freedom, Subsidiarity
From a forum post:
Thanks for instructing me to enjoy the present situation.
It reminded me of a similar instruction from the Apostle (and regent of a hidden kingdom) James:
Jas 1:2-4 NKJV  My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,  (3)  knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.  (4)  But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
The passage always encourages me since it is my faith that is being tested and not my behavior.
And since I accepted faith from God on the basis of the need pf eternal life, and not my merits, I believe that it is guaranteed by the shed blood of the Savior, and will withstand all trials.
Governmental leveling does seem to have a record of failure and increase of human suffering however. Perhaps because:
"The interesting thing about levelers is that they always seem more interested in bringing down those that are above them than in raising up those that are below them." - ascribed to Samuel Johnson by, I believe, C. S. Lewis.
A less gentle version of the Johnson quote on the subject is found in Safire's Political Dictionary - William Safire - Google Books [link to highlighted quote] http://bit.ly/1g6Hz4Y
The true equality of human persons has been established in the creation of each in the image of God.
As God is to be loved, so also are neighbors and self to be loved. They are created and sustained in His image. And blessings from Him flow through neighbors and self, even when, like Josepph's brothers, they do not intend them.
Beings created in God's image flourish best in freedom.
Any necessary control by others should be kept at the lowest governmental level possible. Starting with the immediate family, then the extended family, then the neighborhood, then the locality, then the state, then the limited federation, then the interaction of sovereign nations.
