Jam1v1 James the Regent

James 1:1 KJV James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

_ James is not writing as an apostle to assemblies and believers. He is writing as a servant of the absent rightful King of Israel (John 1.49). He is writing to expatriate Israel. (James is the oldest half-brother of our Lord (Matt 13.55). His position is similar to that of the Empress Eugenie who became Regent of France when her husband, Napoleon III, was captured by the Prussians.)

Acts 15:13-21 KJV And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: (14) [...] (19) Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: (20) But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. (21) For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

_ As Regent, James declares what is acceptable to the Nation of Israel as far as the participation of Gentiles in the assemblies is concerned. These restrictions are accepted by the Assembly. The restrictions are not permanent law for the assemblies. This would lead to the Galatian error, with these restrictions substituted for circumcision. The restrictions are part of a temporary co-dispensation in which there was valid testimony from both the Assembly and the faithful remnant of Israel.

Genesis 8:20-9:4 KJV And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. (21) And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. (22) [...] (9:1) And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. (2) [...] (4) But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

_ The covenant of Noah, one between God, and all men (including Gentiles) and all animals, is the source of the restrictions James places on Gentile Christians. Those who read Moses know that Gentiles ought to obey these restraints. In the judgment of the Regent of Israel, those who accept the restrictions ought to be acceptable to those under the Law of Moses. Sacrifices to idols are contrary to the offerings which are at the heart of the covenant. Fornication, a diversion of reproductive capacity, is contrary to the command to be fruitful and multiply. Eating of blood is directly condemned. Eating things strangled is generally the same as eating blood since the blood is not drained by the method of slaughter.

1Ti1v9to10 O Lawlessness

1st Timothy 1:9-10 KJV Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, (10) For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

N.B. This seems to be the only verse in the King James Version that includes the word “lawless”. The word begins a list of unpleasant characteristics. The application of the term “lawlessness” by the Townhall commentators to our president is a serious charge indeed.

A Legacy of Lawlessness
From the first days that Barack Obama declared his candidacy, we were told how brilliant he was, how this Harvard trained lawyer, who had run the law review, outshone his peers, and taught constitutional law, was intellectually superior to the other presidential aspirants. Surely he was more attuned to sophisticated legal nuances and more dedicated to the rule of law than the outgoing occupant, who symbolized all that was wrong with the “imperial presidency.”
But back in 2008, behind the curtain of “hope and change,” a different agenda was being devised in secret. Channeling Hugo Chavez or Fidel Castro, Obama’s agenda would brook no dissent, respect no constitutional restraint or congressional input, and offer as its justification the flimsiest of rationales: we can’t wait. Back in 2008, we had no idea what lawlessness would be ushered in by this self-proclaimed legal expert, and just how transformative (and destructive) his administration would be.
[[Au contraire: The lack of documentation about Mr. Obama's birth, education, and character should have warned us. The wise knew full well from what was known then that Mr. Obama was seriously anti-American, seriously unqualified, and seriously malign.]]
Six years on, we now know the truth: no president has shown a greater disrespect for the rule of law and our entire legal architecture than this one.
Richard Nixon never went this far.
President Obama does not respect how laws are made. See his abuse of the congressional process to pass Obamacare, and his failure to secure a single Republican vote. Likewise, his blatant disregard for the Senate’s role in approving international accords was shown last week, when his party prevented the Senate from even voting on the merits of the Iran agreement. As with Obamacare, he failed to garner a single Republican vote.
Worse, the president first sought UN approval of the Iran – don’t call it a treaty, which would require a 2/3 vote to pass the Senate – deal before seeking Congressional approval. His chief negotiator Wendy Sherman told reporters: “It would have been a little difficult when all of the [countries negotiating with Iran] wanted to go to the United Nations to get an endorsement of this, since it is a product of the United Nations process, for us to say, 'Well, excuse me, the world, you should wait for the United States Congress.'"
In addition, abdicating the very duty inherent in his role as chief executive, President Obama has made no effort to execute existing laws. Instead, he rejects the laws he does not like, and, like a third world dictator, re-writes the laws as he wished them to be or has his cronies actively litigate or regulate against them. See his decision to refuse to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act; see also in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision recognizing Second Amendment rights in Heller, the DEA’s failed attempt to ban bullets used by hunting and sporting enthusiasts while claiming to be protecting police officers.
Perhaps President Obama’s most brazen violation of the law was his unilateral executive action on immigration, and his imposition of the illegal “deferred action” program, which rewards unlawfully present minors and their parents with legal status and financial benefits. No president has ever attempted to alter the legal status of millions of people, and simultaneously provide them benefits – Congress’ jobs – with the stroke of his pen. For this reason, U.S. District Court judge Andrew Hanen put a stop to the president’s unilateral immigration overhaul and threatened to hold the president’s attorneys in contempt.
Beyond rejecting existing laws, President Obama does not respect how appointments are made. See his June 2012 attempted recess appointment of his political cronies to the National Labor Relations Board when the Senate was not in recess, a move which earned a unanimous rejection by the Supreme Court (Noel Canning v. NLRB). See also his effort to pack the District of Columbia appeals court with friendly judges after blowing up time honored Senate rules governing judicial nominations. Even FDR abandoned a similar court-packing stunt, but to paraphrase another Democrat, President Obama is no FDR.
Perhaps worst of all, President Obama shows no respect for the First Amendment rights of his political opponents and his cronies use the resources of the federal government to attack them. See how his IRS, in the lead up to his 2012 re-election campaign, targeted for IRS harassment citizens who criticized this man, and then attempted to destroy the evidence of their crimes. We’re talking about you, Lois Lerner.
There are many more examples we could cite (the EPA, Kim Davis, Eric Holder, the EEOC), but these suffice to make the point. The Obama Presidency has done more damage to the rule of law and the balance of power between the presidency and the Congress than any president in history. Worse, he has – potentially to an irrevocable extent – expanded the size, scope and brazenness of the executive, to the detriment of all Americans, who rely on the executive branch to enforce existing laws, not create new ones.
By his lawlessness, President Obama has also made the courts the final arbiter of our nation’s most contentious issues, a role they are not empowered or equipped to fulfill. A nation of laws and legal structures, erected and fine-tuned over two centuries, simply cannot abide 8 more years of this. Americans will never have a “government of the people, by the people, and for the people” as long as its people are ruled by a tyrannical executive enabled by unaccountable bureaucracies and unelected federal judges. The tools for America’s reclamation are at the peoples’ disposal. They must use them next November.

1Ti2v2 Trump vs Freedom

1st Timothy 2:1-2 KJV I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; (2) For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
Acts 4:18-20 KJV And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. (19) But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. (20) For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

The Words Trump Doesn't Use
Did you ever think you would see the day when the GOP front-runner rarely uttered the words “freedom” and “liberty”?
Perhaps some Republicans can be accused of loving liberty and freedom too much — or at least using those words as rhetorical crutches. Donald Trump is not one of them. The current GOP presidential front-runner rarely uses the words “freedom” or “liberty” in his remarks at all.
Trump didn’t use the words “freedom” or “liberty” in his announcement speech. He didn’t use those words in his Nashville speech on August 29, or his Nashville rally on August 21, or his appearance at the Iowa State Fair on August 15, or his rally and news conference in New Hampshire on August 14, or his news conference in Birch Run, Mich., or his press conference in Laredo, Texas, on July 23.
He didn’t use those words while discussing his signing of the Republican National Committee’s pledge last Thursday, or in his contentious interview with Hugh Hewitt the same day.
The current GOP presidential front-runner rarely uses the words ‘freedom’ or ‘liberty’ in his remarks at all.
Trump did use the term “free-market” once during his Meet the Press interview with Chuck Todd, in a defense of his qualified support for affirmative action: “Well, you know, you have to also go free market. You have to go capability. You have to do a lot of things. But I’m fine with affirmative action.” The word “liberty” didn’t even come up.
This is an unusual vocabulary for a Republican front-runner. It wasn’t that long ago that grass-roots conservatives showed up at Tea Party rallies with signs reading, “Liberty: All the Stimulus We Need.” The Tea Party named itself after an event organized by the Sons of Liberty. The GOP platform declares the party was “born in opposition to the denial of liberty.”
RELATED: Trump Has Become the Tone-Setter for Today’s GOP
Some of Trump’s Republican presidential rivals use words like “freedom” and “liberty” more frequently than commas. When CNBC’s John Harwood asked Scott Walker about his health-care plan, the Wisconsin governor used the word “freedom” six times in a 179-word answer. In his campaign-announcement speech, Ted Cruz used the word “freedom” twice, and not counting references to Liberty University, which hosted the event, he used the word “liberty” eleven times.
Trump’s lexicon is another indicator of the dramatic shift he would represent in moving the Republican party from a libertarian-leaning one to a populist one. During the Obama era, self-identified libertarians have asked whether the Tea Party and the GOP are truly dedicated to liberty and individual rights, or if their real objection to big government is that it’s controlled by Democrats. The embrace of Trump suggests their skepticism was well-founded.
It’s no accident that Trump has been labeled a populist by outlets across the political spectrum, from The American Interest to NPR. His speeches and off-the-cuff remarks make clear that he doesn’t see the world through the lens of free and unfree; he sees it through the lens of strength and weakness: “For me, conservatism as it pertains to our country is fiscal. We have to be strong and secure and get rid of our debt. The military has to be powerful and not necessarily used but very powerful. I am on the sort of a little bit social side of conservative when it comes — I want people to be taken care of from a health-care standpoint. But to do that, we have to be strong. I want to save Social Security without cuts. I want a strong country. And to me, conservative means a strong country with very little debt.”
The man whose slogan is “Make America Great Again” doesn’t seem particularly worried about a Leviathan state infringing upon its citizens’ liberties. He sees a disordered society whose people are threatened by violent criminals coming across the border, undermined by poor negotiation in foreign-trade and security agreements, and asked by free-riding allies to shoulder way too much of the burden in a dangerous world.
That philosophy is dramatically different from the liberty-focused message Republicans have become accustomed to since the rise of the Tea Party in 2009. And, at least for now, it has made Trump the front-runner by a wide margin.
Jim Geraghty is the senior political correspondent of National Review.

Full disclosure.
When reading Milton's Paradise Lost in high school I was particularly struck of the response of the smallest angel to Satan: “Thou art not free, but slave to self.”
I much prefer “freedom” to “liberty”. The editor of the first English dictionary much preferred to use words with English antecedents. “Liberal” is “libertine” in French and carries both meanings. The New York statue is a gift of the French. The statue atop our Capitol is in the likeness of an American Indian woman and is named, “Freedom”.
The great Christian and biblical social principle of subsidiarity focuses on the responsibility and authority of a creature made in the image of God. Other authorities, beginning with a mother, are provided by God to assist the individual in fulfilling his responsibility to God.
We should pray for government which limits itself to subsidiary duties which authorities closer to the individual (nuclear family, extended family, neighbors, local church, locality) cannot provide.
All men in positions of authority are responsible before God to preserve the proper freedom of those authorities closer to, and including, the individual.

2Ki11v14 H felony

2nd Kings 11:14 KJV And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, Treason.

Judge Andrew Napolitano - The Hillary Chronicles
The bad news has continued to cascade onto the Hillary Clinton for President campaign, and none of it has anything to do with Clinton's opinions on issues. It all is about her fitness for office.
Since Labor Day, we have learned that the folks into whose hands Clinton reposed her computer server for safe keeping do not believe it has been wiped clean of all emails, as her lawyer told a federal judge it was. That means the 33,000 emails she thought she destroyed probably still could be recovered. What will they reveal?
And we learned earlier this week that of the emails released thus far -- those Clinton did not attempt to destroy -- there is a five-month gap for which no emails were produced. For a government official who sent or received about 15,000 emails a year, five months of silence is not believable. Two of those months followed the assassination of the U.S. ambassador to Libya in Benghazi. Where are her emails from that time period?
Why should you care about this?
It is now well established that when she was secretary of state, Clinton refused to use government computers or servers for any of her emails -- governmental and personal. She kept all of her emails from the government. That constitutes theft of government property, as it violates a federal law that mandates that the government owns the emails its employees generate in their work, and if an employee commingles her personal emails with the government's, the government owns those, as well.
Clinton said she did this because she believed it would be easier to do all emailing from one hand-held device, even though she eventually used four devices. Instead of accepting a secure government-issued BlackBerry, she had aides buy an off-the-shelf BlackBerry. We now know she was trying to conceal her Middle Eastern escapades -- secret wars and personal approvals of arms dealings to terrorists -- from the president, from FBI investigators, from State Department colleagues and from history.
But her most serious crime is her failure to safeguard national secrets. The secretary of state is the nation's chief diplomat. She deals with military, diplomatic and national security secrets every day. One of the reasons government employees are required by law to use a government-issued hand-held device and a government-owned and secured server for their official work is to safeguard the national security secrets that pass to and from them by securing their emails with government software and encryption.
Why should you care about this?
When she became secretary of state, Clinton told the president she wanted to hire her friend Sidney Blumenthal -- whom the press has nicknamed 'the prince of darkness' and 'grassy knoll' -- to work as her senior adviser. The president himself blocked the toxic Blumenthal from working for the State Department, whereupon Clinton had her husband's foundation hire him. She then proceeded to engage with him as if he were a senior adviser and to share top-secret emails with him. Blumenthal did not have any national security clearance, and it was a felony for Clinton to share government secrets with him.
Why should you care about this?
You should care about this because Clinton is running for president. Yet, she is uniquely unqualified for the presidency because she is the moral equivalent of a common crook.
Like a crook, she breaks the law, lies about why she broke the law, sees no wrongdoing in her ways and expects to get away with it. Though millions of Democrats have dreamed of her in the White House, and are apparently willing to overlook her crimes, her support is beginning to erode.
How can a person with the morals of a crook be the chief law enforcement officer in the land, the commander in chief of the military and the repository of more lawful power than any person on the planet? How can she be entrusted with national security secrets in the future when she has failed to safeguard them in the past?
Because Blumenthal lacked the government's encryption on his email devices and server, he was hacked by foreign agents. Because he was hacked, Clinton was hacked. Because she was hacked, some of the nation's military, diplomatic and national security secrets in a dangerous world are now in dangerous hands.
A sailor faces 20 years in federal prison for taking a selfie in front of a radar screen and sending it to his girlfriend, and a courageous Marine who used his Gmail account in an emergency to warn his superiors of the near proximity of an assassin faces 20 years for failing to keep the email about the assassin in a secure venue. Then-CIA Director David Petraeus kept secrets in an unlocked desk drawer in his home, which was guarded 24/7, and he pleaded guilty to failure to safeguard secrets.
Clinton's crimes are far worse, but is she any different legally? Can she get away with her crimes because of her last name? She seems to think so. Last week she apologized for making poor choices -- not crimes, but poor choices. And she has given no coherent legal justification for all this.

Full Disclosure.
I have read the honest and friendly biography of Secretary Clinton by Carl Bernstein of Watergate fame.
I largely regard her as a Methodist do-gooder gone astray.
I know enough about developmental psychology to attribute much of her difficulties to the histories and characteristics of her parents. It is a tragedy, much like that of Jim and Tammy Baker.
I am getting too old to spend mental energy detailing how a verse of scripture sheds light on a current event. I trust the knowledge and intellect of my readers to discern those elements that are truly parallel.
Be happy to reply to comments or email for those wanting to know more about my reasoning.

Lev19v2to3 Subsidiarity NC

Leviticus 19:2-3 KJV Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy. (3) Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God.
Romans 13:1-7 KJV Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. [...] (7) Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

Subsidiarity is an organizing principle that matters ought to be handled by the smallest, lowest or least centralized competent authority. Political decisions should be taken at a local level if possible, rather than by a central authority.[1] The Oxford English Dictionary defines subsidiarity as the idea that a central authority should have a subsidiary function, performing only those tasks which cannot be performed effectively at a more immediate or local level. [/] The word subsidiarity is derived from the Latin word subsidiarius and has its origins in Catholic social teaching.”

NC police chief out after calling Black Lives Matter a 'terrorist' group on Facebook

SURF CITY, N.C.(WECT) – Surf City Police Chief Mike Halstead has retired effective immediately following an emergency meeting called in reference to a Facebook post he made.
Major Ron Shanahan will take over as interim chief.
Town leaders and Halstead have agreed on severance pay following his decision to retire.
According to Town Manager Larry Bergman, Surf City Mayor Zander Guy called the emergency meeting in reference to Halstead’s post he made to his personal page on Sept. 3:
Open letter from a Police Chief , this Black Lives Matter group is nothing more than an American born terrorist group brought on by the lie of the hands up don’t shoot during the criminal thug Michael Brown incident. The FBI and other Government Law Enforcement groups need to step up and put a stop to this. The Government and blacks would not tolerate the White Supremacist group to march through the streets and call for the murders of a race of people and a group of public servants. I agree there is a race problem in this country. It is not brought on by police officer doing their sworn duty, it is brought on by the government, the President and his cronies Al Sharpton, who is a criminal tax evader (but has the support of our so called President), Jessi Jackson, Eric Holder and that ignorant S.O.B. Farrakhan who should be charged with solicitation for murder, lord knows a white man would be arrested for the same actions of idiot Farakhan. I am sure there are many hard working Black people who will agree with me. I have been a Police Officer for 35 years. I do not judge anyone by the color of their skin, but by there actions. A criminal is a criminal whether a police officer or any other profession. I will not state statistics because black lives matter do not care or believe proven statistics. I put a lot of the blame for these cop murders on the media and the way they report police related shootings. There is no need to list or even state the race of a person shot by the police. It is more important to wait for the facts and report those. But and a big but that does not make money for these greedy media ass holes. When a black thug is killed by the police they are all over it as is Mr. Barack Obama. However when a police officer white, black or any race is murdered for doing his job the media is short with it’s reporting or not at all. When a white person is killed by a black officer you hear nothing. Has our so called President spoke publicly about these murders of police officers by blacks, HELL NO he has not. Step up Mr. President, or step down because we do not need you. Has our Attorney General spoke against these murders, no of course not because she was appointed by Barack Obama. Now let me say this, and this is not a threat but common knowledge. I have instructed my officers to be vigilant, if threatened take appropriate action. If that means shoot a thug, then do it and answer for it while you are still alive not dead. Law Enforcement is fed up with this murderous society who want to take out those who protect and serve. Imagine if all law enforcement shut down for just 1 day. There would be murders, rapes, robberies, you name it. America wake up, all of you black, white, Mexican whatever you need the police, we do not need you. End this Black Lives Matter bull shit and start a movement that all lives matter. As for the New Black Panther movement who wants to kill whites and cops, go for it, we are ready for you. You take one of us and there will be 100 who will step up and end you. This letter is not meant to offend anyone, just the feelings of a man who has spent the last 35 years of his life serving and protecting, for what, so a thug can take it, or to be treated as a criminal by the very people I swore to protect. Let’s get this around folks so maybe our President and the media will get a wake up call. Be safe all of my Brothers and Sisters in blue, not white, black, yellow or brown BLUE.”
Bergman said he spoke with Halstead about the post after it was brought to his attention. He said he reminded him “that as public employees we are often held to higher level of scrutiny and that even if it is a personal social media account and despite not associating himself directly to the Town in his posting, that some will draw the connection.”
Bergman also said the chief is apologetic for how his statements have been interpreted, and that he removed the post on his own accord.
The emergency meeting was held at 3 p.m. at Surf City Town Hall. [My emphasis.]

Full Disclosure.
Pius XI formally defined “subsidiarity” in the year of my birth, 1931.
Citizens of North Carolina, like myself, are predominately of English descent.
I believe that officials and notables of a federated republican state have a subsidiariated authority and responsibility to criticize officials and notables of the republican federation.

Deu29v10to29 Israel stands

Deu 29:10-29 KJV Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel, (11) Your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water: (12) That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day: […] (29) The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Just Call Him Bob

BOSTON -- We're here to attend the bar mitzvah of my eldest grandson, Aviav, who's named in honor of his other grandfather, the one he never met. By now he's gotten used to spelling out his first name, which is Hebrew for father of my father, but the pronunciation may escape folks. Like the violin teacher he had who tried and tried but just couldn't get her tongue around his name. ("What's that again? Av ... uh, Av ... Avi ...") That's when Aviav, always trying to be helpful, told her: "Call me Bob."

Now he stands before the congregation to chant the ancient prayers, read from the Torah scroll, and finally deliver his own commentary on Nitzavim, this week's designated portion of Scripture -- not that I'm sufficiently learned to appreciate it.

The spirit of bar mitzvahs past, present and future is strong in this modest little synagogue; you can sense it. Surely this place is holy and I, I knew it not.

Looking around, I see ghosts everywhere. They started appearing when we recited the magical words of the Kaddish, the Jewish prayer for the dead (Yisgadal v'yiskadash sh'mei rabbah . . .), and were soon shimmering next to us. That's when the realization hit: We were all praying together, the quick and the dead.

Maybe the apparitions had something to do with my hanging a bunch of old pictures in my study back in Little Rock before we left home. Because there were Zeyde Chaim and Bubba Chava (Grandpa Charlie and Grandma Eve, the grand matriarch and mother courage of my side of the family), along with my father as a young immigrant fresh from the old country -- and already an aspiring American businessman complete with fountain pen in his vest pocket. My namesake Pesach the Gritsmaker in his black kaftan peers out from an ornate frame, and other forebears look down from their perches here and there on the walls. Not content to stay where I'd left them in Little Rock, they all seem to have followed me here.

The bar mitzvah boy's mother, my daughter, got that old-time religion while a student at Brandeis years ago and became Shomer Shabbos, one who strictly observes the sabbath, so I can no longer phone her on Saturdays. But now we were all together for the bar mitzvah.

I can remember her Texas born-and-bred grandfather taking me aside at her wedding as all rites were observed in more than full to warn me she was "joining a cult." Which is how we tend to think of any religious practices stricter than our own. But today came the happy ending: the sight and sound of Aviav delivering his own commentary on Nitzavim.

Young Aviav reviewed the commentaries he'd studied so carefully, including that of Rashi, the foremost medieval scholar of Holy Writ, who asked why this portion of the Torah used the verb nitzavim instead of the more ordinary omdim for "You are standing...." And answered: Because nitzavim has the connotation of standing firmly, not just standing. And standing together with others, united, not just for one generation but through all time. Or as Scripture tells the story:

On the last day of Moses' life, as he was preparing to hand the reins to his successor Joshua, he gathered all the people of Israel together and told them:

"You stand this day, all of you, before the Lord your God. Your tribal heads, your elders and your officials, all the men of Israel, your children, your wives, even the stranger within your camp, from the chopper of wood to the drawer of water, to enter into the covenant of the Lord your God which the Lord your God is concluding with you this day...."

That is, all the souls who have gone before, who are here today, and will come in the future. What a difference a single word can make.

The spirit of Rashi's interpretation of the biblical verse is not entirely different from Edmund Burke's definition of what makes a continuing nation -- a social contract between past, present and future. Society, he wrote in his "Reflections on the Revolution in France" back in 1790, "is a partnership ... not only between those who are living, but between those who are dead, and those who are to be born."

That contract, compact, covenant or whatever we choose to call it, is violated when one generation runs up debt and leaves others to pay for it. It is violated when one generation fails to conserve its natural inheritance -- fields, forests, mountains, lakes and rivers -- for those who come afterward. It is violated when historic structures are neglected or ancient rights ignored. It is violated when one heedless generation decides it no longer needs to defend its freedom and moves to appease the latest aggressor to come along. And risks the safety and security of all. It is violated when ... well, name your own favorite example and warning. God knows there are enough to choose from among today's headlines.

Here endeth today's lesson. Thank you, Aviav ben David. You made us proud. And hopeful.

Paul Greenberg, longtime Arkansas editor, inventor of phrases “Slick Willie” and “Clinton clause” about their then governor, is another top favorite.
I believe that ending Jewish boys to Hebrew school is a great tradition. (Sending Christian boys to Greek school would be a better tradition.)
Deu 29.29 has long been a favorite verse.
I have long thought that the word “to stand” has a flavor of eternity. The Greek words for both crucifixion and resurrection are derived from a verb meaning “to stand”.

President Obama and his rancid leftist allies have subjected America to a blizzard of lies. Nothing that leaves his mouth even remotely parrots the truth, but typically stands truth on its head. The propaganda infrastructure spanning media, Hollywood, non-profit institutions and the halls of academia then erects a virtually impenetrable wall of disinformation to advance the lie.

They have just foisted on us a “deal” with Iran that threatens to create a holocaust, the likes of which America, and perhaps the world, has never seen. As Iran chanted “death to America” and “death to Israel,” this “deal” somehow skirted the advice and consent role reserved to the U.S. Senate. While we are afflicted with many feckless, incompetent and corrupt Republican Senators -- never mind the Democrats -- the “deal” could have never obtained the requisite approval of 2/3ds of senators. The lies about the “deal” are too numerous to catalog, and before the ink has even dried, Iran has suddenly “discovered” massive stockpiles of uranium it never knew it had!

Now the administration wants to use the refugee resettlement program to import a flood of Syrian immigrants into the U.S. It will virtually guarantee an opening for ISIS and other terrorists to establish bases in the U.S. legally with taxpayer dollars. Obama created his own 9-11 in Benghazi. Apparently that wasn’t enough. Now he wants one here.

The flood of Syrian “refugees” into Europe has been called an invasion. That is clearly an apt description. While there are certainly heart-rending stories, many coming to Europe are opportunists. 72 percent are men -- mostly of military age. Only 15 percent are children and 13 percent women, according to the U.N. Many are not destitute, paying thousands of dollars and embarking on long, expensive trips to reach Europe. Furthermore, half are not even Syrians but

come from Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Some of the crowds have shown themselves to be vile, vicious and ungrateful.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel opened her arms to these “migrants,” agreeing to take hundreds of thousands, but the German people are outraged. Why would Merkel do this to her own country? Is it that Merkel’s shady work for the East German Communist Party never stopped? Is Merkel assisting the Russians in their ambition to take over Europe? A biography written by two German journalists argues she has never abandoned the communism of her youth. This may explain her attitude toward the refugees now threatening to collapse the country.

Obama and the Left want the same thing here. Approximately 1,500 Syrians gained access to the U.S. this fiscal year. Obama intends to allow at least 10,000 more in FY 2016 -- which starts October 1. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), chair of the House Homeland Security Committee stated in an interview Thursday that Syrian refugees cannot be vetted for jihadist connections. “(I)t would be highly irresponsible to start bringing them in, when they could be potential terrorists, and provide a sort of a jihadist pipeline into the United States,” he said, adding, “We did this in Iraq when we had very good intelligence, and we brought in several that had already killed Americans.” McCaul joins the director of the FBI and even Obama’s Director of national intelligence James Clapper, who have both issued similar warnings.

In its recruitment documents, ISIS claims to seek “the end of the world.” ISIS has claimed 4,000 jihadis are already in Europe and it plans to similarly exploit weaknesses in the U.S. refugee program. On Sunday, an ISIS terrorist was arrested in Germany posing as a refugee. German customs has also seized 10,000 passports being smuggled into Germany, for possible use by terrorists in country. Finally, Merkel appears to have had a change of heart. Sunday afternoon Germany shut down the border, “for urgent security reasons.” All trains from Austria have been stopped.

In light of these hard facts, the Obama administration’s plan to bring in 10,000 Syrians is insane. But 10,000 is just the tip of the iceberg. In August, the administration said it would take between 5,000 and 8,000. U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Brent McGurk said that 17,000 Syrians had applied with the U.N. for refugee status in the U.S. (Note: by law, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) chooses virtually all of America’s refugees). At the same time, the Obama administration signaled it may use an alternative “parole” procedure to grant entry to even more Syrians. Already, about 5,000 Syrians now in the U.S. have applied for “Temporary Protected Status,” a program for illegals fleeing war or natural disasters. Most TPS illegals simply reapply when the status expires -- de facto amnesty.

Back in June, 14 Democratic U.S. senators called for America to accept 65,000 Syrian refugees. They quickly earned the nickname “Jihad Caucus.” The UNHCR had called on Western nations to take 130,000 Syrians, and since the U.S. resettles half of all refugees recommended by the U.N. (yes we do -- more than all other resettlement countries combined), our magic number should be 65,000.

But it wasn’t even the senators who actually fronted that number. It originated with the Refugee Council USA, the lobbying arm of the out-of-control, serially corrupt U.S. refugee resettlement industry. And yes it is an industry. There are nine so-called “voluntary agencies” (VOLAGs) that contract with the federal government to resettle refugees. While they are classified as tax-exempt non-profits, this is a massive profit center -- earning them close to $1 billion in 2014. That comes out to almost $8,000 per-head. And since the current annual refugee cap is 70,000, double the refugees, double the income -- it’s simple math.

But the insanity does not stop there. The VOLAGs have screamed for many more. The Lutheran Immigrant Aid Society, which earns 97 percent of its income from taxpayers, has demanded the U.S. import 100,000 Syrians, and raise the overall refugee cap from its current 70,000 to 200,000. Cha ching!

But they were not even the first. Inexplicably, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society has suggested we may need to resettle 200,000 Syrians. Initially founded to resettle Jewish refugees, HIAS is now one of the largest Muslim resettlement agencies. Blatantly disregarding the safety of its fellow Jews and its own heritage, HIAS conveniently overlooks the fact that despite their refugee status, Syrians are not desperate enough to forget Israel, still calling it their number one enemy.

So not surprisingly, the VOLAGs are outraged that the administration is saying “only” 10,000 Syrians. Democratic legislators have carried the VOLAGs’ water, chiming in that 10,000 are “not enough.” The Pope, who has already shown his Marxist colors, is trying to convince Catholics to join the call for more. Now the entire radical leftist infrastructure has jumped on board. Moveon.org is demanding 100,000 Syrians, and a new, particularly evil organization called We Welcome Refugees appealed to churches to raise the issue with their congregations on Sunday, September 13. They provide sample scripts, videos and other information churches could use.

We Welcome Refugees is a project of World Relief, one of the VOLAGs. WR received $41.2 million in government grants in 2014, 75 percent of total revenues. Your tax dollars are being spent to lobby churches so World Relief can make more money. Is this not criminal activity? It is certainly illegal for World Relief to do so. Has the IRS investigated this “non-profit?” Will it ever?

All the outrage ginned up in this massive PR campaign is clearly tactical. Expect the Obama administration to “give in” and up the numbers dramatically. In FY 2015, 97 percent of Syrian refugees resettled in the U.S. were Muslim. Ask the VOLAGs how many Syrian Christians they intend to resettle. They cannot answer. Do you know why? Resettlement agencies are not allowed to ask! If they claim to seek Christian converts they lie. VOLAGs are prohibited from proselytizing.

None of the Gulf States are taking any refugees, despite the fact that they share a culture, religion and language with the Syrians, and have money to burn. China, Russia and all the countries of the former East Bloc, have refused to take any as well. Why should America take them? Under President Obama, do we not have enough problems of our own?

It is high time for Congress to call out the administration on the destructive, out-of-control refugee resettlement program. We have initiated a petition to demand changes. Please sign it. Congressman Brian Babin has proposed legislation (HR 3314) suspending the program. It needs companion legislation in the Senate and more Congressional support.

Now we need congressional hearings to reveal the refugee resettlement agenda for what it is. It has been flying under the radar for decades while our local communities are being transformed into unrecognizable third-world camps, where refugees overwhelm local governments with demands for social services while they join illegal immigrants in stealing our jobs. Call on your legislators stop the Syrian invasion and demand hearings!

Obama is the personification of the American radical Left -- a force of pure, malevolent evil intent on destroying our country. He is the Cloward Piven president. Refugee resettlement as currently structured is Cloward Piven on steroids. It is literally an agenda to erase America.

Exo3v14to15 Allah is not Jehovah

Exo 3:14-15 KJV And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. (15) And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

Is Islam an "Abrahamic" Faith along with Judaism and Christianity?
My friend Mark Durie, an Anglican priest and theologian, has written a book refuting the thinking common today that Islam shares a theological lineage from Father Abraham with Judaism and Christianity.
"Islam has no family resemblance with Christianity and Judaism. The similarities are appropriated, not inherited," the Anglican priest and theologian Mark Durie starkly stated in his book "Which God? Jesus, Holy Spirit, God in Christianity & Islam." This volume is essential reading for Christians who wish to counter the "Abrahamic fallacy" of Islamic kinship with Judeo-Christian faith.
In his book, Durie noted the oft-touted idea of Western Abrahamic civilization in a world that once esteemed its Judeo-Christian civilization. Many assume that Islam joins Judaism and Christianity in possessing a theological lineage from the Old Testament's Father Abraham. "This is new thinking which reflects the growing influence of Islam," Durie said, adding that "one expression of the Islamicization of Christian thought serves the supersessionist program of Islam."
Durie stressed that wording in the Quran recognizes Islam not as a faith that is subservient to Judaism and Christianity, but "as the primordial religion." Those of the Islamic faith believe that other religions can be called "Abrahamic" only as concessions, because those faiths "derive their history in a confused and corrupted way from Islamic roots." As noted in Quran 3:67, Islam proclaims that Abraham and other biblical figures were actually Muslims whose revelations Jews and Christians through the ages perverted into a "debased derivative of Islam."
Yet the Islamic "libel that Jews and Christians have corrupted their scriptures is without historical support," Durie wrote. While "Biblical narratives are rich with historical details -- many confirmed by archeology -- the Quran's sacred history is devoid of archeological support." Furthermore, the "Quran conflates the timelines of the Bible," indicating that Islam's Prophet Muhammad convolutedly pieced together Biblical tales that he had heard over the years. Quran 28:6, for example, describes Haman as a minister of Egypt's pharaoh, not of the Persian emperor as in the Book of Esther.
The "prophet Isa [Jesus] of the Quran is a product of fable, imagination and ignorance," Durie wrote, adding that the Quran is "valueless as a source of historical information on Jesus," and that the book's assertion that Jesus did not die by crucifixion has no support in history. The Quran's reference to Jesus's making clay into birds is taken from the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, a second-century "apocryphal text with fantastical mythical stories -- some of them malevolent -- about the childhood of Jesus."
Durie sagely recognized the fact that many Christians find it difficult to embrace Islamic beliefs about Jesus, as well as the Quranic naming of Jesus. In Islamic apocalyptic prophecy, Jesus "will outlaw Christians and destroy Christianity." And the Quranic name of Jesus -- "Messiah" -- finds no explanation in that book; in fact, Muslim scholars have never been able to reach a consensus about what the word means. Even stranger, "no one quite knows where Muhammad got the name Isa from. It seems to be borrowed from the Greek Iesous, from another language ... Arabic-speaking Christians refer to Jesus as Yasu (from Yeshua borrowed via the Syriac)." Similarly, the Arabic word for Abraham ("Father of Many" in Hebrew), Ibrahim, lacks a definition in the Arabic language.
Along with different scriptures come different theologies -- for instance, doctrines that concern the relationship between God and believers. "The Quran does not conceive of relationship with Allah in terms of the presence of Allah, but in terms of obedience to his commands," Durie wrote, adding that Muslims are therefore slaves (or Abdullahs) of Allah. Obedience is realized in the Dar al-Islam (the house of Islam), which is where humans implement sharia law -- including "injunctions in the Quran which explicitly contradict the Ten Commandments." By contrast, the Christian "'Kingdom of God' ... is not understood in terms of a political kingdom, but in terms of the saving presence of God in human affairs."
The proximity of God and believers correspondingly differs within Christianity and Islam. "Human submission is matched by Allah's dominance in Islam," Durie said, explaining that the people of God are termed "saints," or "holy ones" in the Bible -- pointing to their part in God's holy nature. "The concept of submission emphasizes the otherness of God from humanity; the concept of holiness emphasizes God's identification with his creatures," he said. Likewise, the Bible speaks of "human beings' being created in the image of God," while in the Quran, "the idea that people should be like Allah, or seek to become like him in any way, is regarded as blasphemy."
The Biblical idea of God's love is everlasting and transcends our sin -- but Allah's love as described in the Quran is conditional upon human actions. "In the Quran, Allah loves, protects and shows mercy to those who follow his commands," Durie explained. "But much more frequent than statements about who Allah loves are statements about who Allah does not love."
Christian-Muslim differences continue even in the afterlife. In the heaven of "Christian theology, the 'wow' factor is all about being in God's presence (Revelation 21:3-4)," Durie said, pointing out that "Allah's presence is not center stage in the Islamic vision of paradise." Islam's "oasis view" of heaven focuses on "many great delights and pleasures, including -- according to many authorities and the Quran itself -- sexual partners."
In summary, Durie said that "what is shared between Christianity and Islam is more than matched by the most profound contrasts in the identity of God." He compared Islam to Haitian Creole, a language with a West African structure but a largely French vocabulary. "Islam is more like a creole faith which has borrowed much of its spiritual lexicon from Judaism and Christianity, but fits these onto pagan foundations, molded in the crucible of Muhammad's life."
Durie provided a sober rebuttal to the Jews and Christians who fancy Islam's theological place in the family of Abraham, whether out of the hope of greater global harmony or a larger fellowship of God's followers. The Islamic faith that arose among the Arab descendants of Abraham's son Ishmael is a pretender to Father Abraham's theological pedigree.
Armed with Durie's insight, Christians should shine their light for those blinded by Islam and offer truth in love rather than superficial interfaith encounters. God's blessing of the world through Abraham's descendant Jesus demands no less for lost Muslim sheep.

Mat5v18 Netanyahu studies Bible

Matthew 5:18 KJV For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Why the Hell Would Anyone Want to Read the Bible?
by Susan L.M. Goldberg [/] pjmedia.com [/] http://j.mp/0PMstudiesBible or http://pjmedia.com/lifestyle/2015/09/08/why-the-hell-would-anyone-want-to-read-the-bible/?singlepage=true [Links to sources at linked article. Full article text below.]
The day I came across this Tweet referencing this Gallup poll titled “Majority Say Moral Values Getting Worse“:
I also came across this story picked up by IMRA titled “On the Eve of the Jewish New Year, PM Netanyahu and his Wife Sara Host a Meeting of the Tanakh Study Circle at the Prime Minister’s Residence in Jerusalem.” The account of a politician’s Bible study reads, in part:
Prime Minister Netanyahu: “I am pleased to see you all here, including the President of the Supreme Court. Whoever participates, or has participated, in this Circle on a regular basis knows that I once said that the Tanakh is the rock of our existence. Simply put, there is no other significance to our being here without our link to our land and to his book. I read it every Shabbat, with my son if he is on vacation or without him if he is not. I draw great inspiration from it. We are presently finishing the Book of Deuteronomy. After it comes the Book of Joshua. The custom that I have with Avner is that after we finish the weekly Torah and Haftara readings, we simply read sections from the Tanakh. It always reflects on contemporary events. It always touches on the present and on the eternal life of humanity in general and our people in particular.
It is important to me that Israeli children read the Tanakh and establish their knowledge of our culture and our heritage, which are the story of faith, history and morality between man and man and between man and G-d, morality for all humanity. This is first and foremost.
I say this at a time when there is a contrary trend among the nations of the world, a trend that would continue to deny our rights and our link to this land and indeed to life.
What Netanyahu cites as a “global trend” I see on clear display in American politics. I see it in the Iran deal. I see it in Obama’s condemnation of Democrats who support Israel. I see it in the president’s brash lecturing of American Jews regarding their support of Israel. I see it in the federal government’s involvement in Israeli elections and the BDS movement. I even see it in the vicious sentiments of Donald Trump supporters. Anti-Israelism is on full display here in the United States. Anyone who argues to the contrary has their head buried in the sand.
What those of us who recognize this fail to ask is why. Why do our leaders feel so free to establish a culture of hatred towards Israel, so much so that they’re willing to negotiate with fascist dictators and spend millions of tax dollars intervening in foreign elections to prove their point? This is where that Gallup poll comes into play. Our morality has spiraled downward at a rapid pace, that is for sure. So, what do morality and Israel have in common? The Bible.
We, as a nation, have forgotten the Bible. Not that long ago, my mother’s Silent Generation would read from it every morning in public school. A simple Psalm, a prayer to a non-denominational Judeo-Christian God. This is the same God called on repeatedly by America’s founders and cited by great leaders like Abraham Lincoln who made it a point to draw political wisdom from Biblical text. “A house divided against itself shall not stand,” the Great Emancipator once quoted from Proverbs. We have forgotten this, the core of our cultural being known simply as the Word of God. As a result we have become a nation divided against our very self and this is why we’re falling.
We Jews are about to celebrate Rosh haShanah. Known simply as the Jewish New Year, in truth it is Yom Teruah, the day of Trumpets. The sound of the shofar kicks off a season of redemption, the horns acting as an audible reminder to perform teshuva, to repent and return in anticipation, not only of God’s judgement on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) but of God’s presence dwelling with us on Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles). America needs a Yom Teruah and the teshuva that goes along with it. We need a return to our God, our Bible, and to ourselves. We need a return to our true allies.
Israel is not the only nation susceptible to powers that seek “to deny our rights and our link to this land and indeed to life.” With all good acts of teshuva there is a turning away from what caused us to fall off course in the first place. We need to turn away from destructive behaviors like berating both Scripture and the people who brought God’s Word into our world and our culture. We need to turn away from making deals with leaders bent on destroying us and everything that made us great.
We have this terrible habit of associating the Bible and those who put their faith in it with images of apocalyptic fire and brimstone. This is because we do not read the Bible for ourselves. If we did, we would have a very clear understanding of cause and effect, much like the one expressed by Netanyahu in his speech before Congress last spring. To the Jew, this cause-and-effect scenario goes a little like this: They tried to kill us. We won. Let’s eat. As it stands now, America’s comprehension is to the contrary: They want to kill us. We’ll sign paperwork and hope for the best. As G.K. Chesterton wrote, those who do not believe in God become “capable of believing in anything.”
America’s anti-Israelism is the sad effect caused by our turning away from the Word of God. The one nation whose leaders are turning toward that Word is the nation determined to survive what seeks to destroy us all. Upon our establishment Ben Franklin likened Americans to the Biblical Israelites crossing the parted sea to freedom. Thank God Israel is still around to show us the pathway to redemption today. It is time we Americans re-learn what we’ve forgotten.
