Lack of Obvious Exonerating Context

Recent reports of the failure of the armed services to meet recruiting goals seem to universally omit the obvious explanation.

Military recruitment generally falls when the civilian employment picture is good.

But it seems as though our media have no wish to credit the administration with good economic news.

In the absence of obvious context, many are apt to believe that the young are rejecting military service under the current administration, their use of the military, and their treatment of military personnel.

But, perhaps that is the desired spin.

Clever, when you cannot make a case, hide exonerating evidence and let the jurors' imaginations condemn the accused.

It is similiarly reported that the fall of the recruitment of women and minorities is even greater than the average.

And similiarly, I believe, civilian employment oportunities increase more for women and minorites in good times than for others.

The fall in recruitment does not mean that the military is mistreating women and minorities.
